When you review websites for accessibility, certain problems come up especially often. The good news: many of them are easy to spot and can be improved step by step.
1. Too little contrast
Light grey text on a white background looks calm, but it is hard to read for many people. More contrast makes content quicker to take in.
2. No keyboard operation
Not every visitor uses a mouse. That is why menus, buttons, forms and links should also be reachable by keyboard. A visible focus shows where you currently are.
3. Missing alternative text
Screen readers cannot convey images in a meaningful way when descriptions are missing. Short, fitting alt text helps especially with images that carry meaning.
4. Text that is too small
Text should be able to scale up without content being cut off or the layout becoming unusable.
5. Motion without a stop
Automatic animations can distract or feel unpleasant. Visitors should be able to stop or reduce moving content.
